About the Open-Ceiling Sea Cave

As one of the world’s most famous littoral cells, the Open-Ceiling Cave (sometimes called Queen’s Bath) is one Kauai’s most popular sightseeing destinations. It was formed when the ceiling of a hollow lava tube collapsed into the seafloor below, creating a cylindrical cave that has an open view of the sky. A narrow entrance channel opens from the sea into the hollow chamber, which measures 150 feet in diameter and has a small rock island in the center.

Take a Tour of Beautiful Queen’s Bath

sightseeingThe entrance channel to the Open-Ceiling Cave is wide enough for kayaks, small sightseeing boats, and Zodiac© raft tours to pass through. In the summertime, the mid-morning sun pours through the ceiling, streaming through the pristine water and reflecting off of the white sand beneath. This produces the enchanting illusion that the 65-feet-deep water is continuously changing shades of blue and green. The movement of the ocean plays with color, shadow, light, and texture to create a sight you must see for yourself to believe.
