Microblading is becoming increasingly popular—as more women want bold brows without the hassle of makeup. And the results can last up to three years. However, after leaving the studio, follow the advice in the guide below for taking care of yourself and your new look.

Do:

Be gentle while washing. 

You can wash your face the night after the appointment, but don’t apply any cleanser or moisturizer to your brows. Don’t touch or rub them in general until they’ve had time to heal.

Avoid harsh cosmetics. 

To allow your skin to heal, don’t use makeup, lotion, and ointment that is not recommended by the brow technician. Also, keep any skin medications like benzoyl peroxide and retinoids away from your brows. 

Sleep on your back.

This sleep position will keep your brows from coming into contact with the pillowcase, potentially causing irritation. It will also keep any ointment in place. If you are a side-sleeper or are worried about rolling over at night, put small bandaids on the edge of your brows to create a barrier. 

Don’t:

Sit in direct sunlight.

Direct sun exposure can make the skin under your brows more sensitive and cause sunburn. If you have plans to go outdoors, wear a large-brimmed hat or sit in the shade. Once the site heals, apply sunscreen to the brow area. The sun can cause the tattoo to fade, so keeping the area protected will preserve its boldness. 

Avoid moisture.

Keep your brows dry for the first few days after your appointment or for as long as the microblading professional recommends. Avoiding sweating, swimming, baths, and saunas will prevent infection.

Pick your brows.

Even if you experience itching or pain, keep your hands away from your brows. Avoid picking or scratching the area, since this can cause scabbing. If you are experiencing excess itching or irritation, call the brow studio. They may want to take a second look at your healing skin and check for any issues.
