With summer weather finally making an appearance, RV owners are heading towards their favorite campgrounds for fun and adventure. While spending time in nature is one of the best aspects of owning a recreational vehicle, dealing with sticky sap from trees is not ideal. Fortunately, there are several ways to remove stains from different parts of your vehicle to keep it looking great. Here's what you should know.

How Do You Remove Tree Sap From Different Sections of an RV?

Exterior

The goal is to remove the sap without damaging the RV's paint, which is likely if you use sharp tools or implements. Instead, apply a cleanser or some other agent to break up sticky material and wipe it away. Rubbing alcohol is a great option, as it's tough enough to remove stains but won't damage the underlying paint. Apply a small amount of the liquid to the sap with a microfiber cloth, and rub the spot until it's gone. If you don't have rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer is an adequate alternative.

Roofs

Since RV roofs are typically made from rubber, you must approach this area more cautiously to prevent damage. Start by washing the roof as you normally would and allow it to dry completely.

Mix 1 cup of bleach and 5 gallons of water in a bucket. Dip a clean cloth into the solution, and apply it to the stain. However, only use a small amount since excess bleach could run down the side of the RV, damaging the paint.

Awnings

Vinyl awnings usually can't withstand harsh cleansers or chemicals, even when the solutions are properly diluted. Freezing the sap makes it easier to remove, which can be achieved using an aerosol freeze spray.

Read the directions on the can, and apply the spray after cleaning the awning and letting it dry. If you can't find this product around your campground, substitute ice instead. Place an ice cube directly over the stain, and wait for it to harden. After it's frozen, it should be easy to pick off.
