It’s hard to rival the simplicity and speed Apple® devices offer their users, and it’s leading more and more people to make the switch from a PC to a Mac® each day. However, if you’ve been a die-hard PC user for the last few years, transitioning to an entirely new system can seem like a bit of a challenge. While a learning curve can be expected, it won’t take long for you to learn the ins and outs of the Apple operating system. Here’s what you need to know that will make your switch even easier.

What You Should Keep in Mind When Switching to an Apple Device

1. The Settings Orientation Will Be Different

On a PC, your program options are always located on the top right-hand side of the screen. However, with Apple systems, the controls are flipped. In the top left corner of your screen, you’ll find the close, full-screen, and minimize buttons, as well as the central control panel found by clicking the Apple logo. This is one of the changes that will take the longest to get used to, but once you train your eyes to look to the left rather than the right corner, you’ll be fine.

2. There’s No More Start Menu

Apple DevicesWith PCs, most of your programs are housed in the “start” menu. This includes basic computer functions like logging out of your account or restarting the computer. With an Apple device, the components of the “start” menu are broken up into two areas. The F4 key will pull up all of the applications installed on your device, giving you easy access to every program you need. When you’re ready to shut down your computer, you’ll find the options you need by clicking the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen.

3. Your Touchpad Is More Than a Mouse

Apple designed their touchpad to give you the same functions of a standard mouse and more. Tap two fingers on the touchpad to right click on the page. Swipe three fingers to the side to switch between applications in full-screen mode. Swipe three fingers up to see tiles of each application you’re running. This allows you to multitask easily and reduces downtime when searching for the window you need.
