3 Common Issues With Mac® Computers & How to Fix Them
Apple® products are designed to deliver powerful performance, which is one of the reasons Mac® computers are so popular. However, as with any electronic device, problems do come up, often requiring a trip to the computer repair shop. Here are a few common issues to watch for.
A Guide to Common Mac Issues
1. Failure to Boot Properly
If you press the power button and see a blank or gray screen, you could have too many programs open, preventing the computer from starting correctly.
The easiest solution is to boot it in Safe Mode. Start the Mac and hold the shift key until the Apple logo disappears, and the login screen shows up. This runs a diagnostic test of the hard disk and only lets minimal software operate.
2. Constantly Loading
The Random-access memory (RAM) is used to run multiple programs simultaneously, and when it becomes overloaded, loading times may slow. Before taking it in for computer repairs, force quit programs that are using a high percentage of the central processing unit (CPU). This is done by pressing command+option+ESC at the same time and closing out the programs. If the issue persists, you may need more RAM.
3. Not Connecting to the Internet
When your phone or other electronic devices are able to connect to the internet, but your Mac isn’t, go to the Network page under System Preferences, and click the Advanced button. This brings up a list of your preferred networks. Highlight the one that is giving you trouble and choose Remove to delete the connection. Next, click on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar and use your login information to reconnect.
