Cleaning methods used to sanitize personal tech such as cell phones is not a new subject matter. However, with recent concern of the virus COVID-19, it has once again become a topic for discussion. Many of us don’t know, but according to phys.org the surface of your phone or watch screen are some of the dirtiest surfaces you own. Those surfaces are up to 7 times dirtier than your toilet. A study performed by the CDC shows that phones transmit diseases very easy and frequently. The CDC also recommends washing your hands with soap and water frequently, use hand sanitizer if soap and water aren’t available, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands.

There are many ways to go about effectively cleaning the surface of your phone, tablet, computer, or watch, but keeping your hands clean is critical for all of them. Using disinfectant wipes or sprays that contain at least 70% alcohol can help clean and disinfect surfaces, according to the CDC. The downside to this method is that you have to be very careful not to cause liquid damage.

Another very effective method is UV-C. This method uses ultra-violet ray-casting, specifically called ultra-violet germicidal irradiation, that will destroy 99.99% of bacteria and sanitize your screens or surfaces. This method can be used on phones, laptops, tablets, watches, game consoles, and other accessories. The biggest disadvantage using UV-C is up front cost and availability. If you are like most people who never considered this option before and find yourself currently searching for this product, you might be disappointed to find out that most of those products are out of stock right now.
