1. Check the Paddles

Most snowblowers have paddles or blades that rotate inside the assembly to scrape snow from the ground as the machine moves forward. Since these parts contact the ground regularly, they can wear down over time. If they’re cracked or no longer touch the ground, have them replaced. 

2. Replace the Belts

Most snowblowers have two or three belts responsible for moving the augers and wheels. These usually last about five years but may need to be replaced earlier if they’ve snapped or worn down due to excess friction. At the beginning of each season, remove the cover and check for cracks or fraying, and replace any worn belts. 

3. Change Fluids

At the end of the season, drain any gasoline left in your snowblower to prevent it from degrading and clogging the lines. At the start of winter, fill the fuel tank and add a stabilizer that will prevent it from breaking down during winter. Additionally, change the oil at the start of the season and after about 50 hours of operation. 

4. Clean or Replace the Spark Plug

If your snowblower has trouble starting, remove the spark plug from the engine. This part provides the initial power needed to ignite the fuel. If it’s cracked or corroded, have it replaced. If not, try cleaning it with a wire brush to see if that solves the problem.
