Partial dentures are a great way to hold the missing space between your permanent teeth. If you have recently been given dentures, you may have questions about how to clean them and store them properly. Even though they are technically fake teeth, you will want to brush them and take care of them just like they are your real teeth. Here are three ways to maintain your partial dentures and make your dentist impressed with you at your next appointment.

How Can I Maintain My Partial Dentures?

1. Soak Them Properly

When you take your dentures off before bed, make sure you soak them properly. If your dentist has not given you a solution to clean your dentures with, choose either cold water or your chosen tablets from the drugstore. Soaking your dentures makes sure they don't break or change shape, keeping you from needing constant adjustments from the dentist.

2. Don't Wear Them to Bed

Wearing your dentures to bed can cause them to break, especially if you grind your teeth at night. Take them out and brush them at night and in the morning, then place them in your soaking solution. It can also cause bacteria to grow in the mouth and possibly make your gums inflamed.

3. Don't Fix Them Yourself

Make sure you schedule a time to go to the dentist if you notice that your partial dentures are no longer fitting properly or have broken. Your dentist will be able to correct your dentures and ensure they are fitting properly and help you deal with any soreness you might have. Don't attempt to fix your dentures yourself, as you can cause more damage that can't be reversed.
