Your RV is an investment that requires a lot of care, especially for the body of the vehicle. If it's professionally painted, it's even more urgent to keep the body scratch-free. Periodic auto painting can help cover up scratches and marks or general wear and tear. The guide below discusses tips every RV owner should practice to keep the vehicle's body looking its best.

3 Ways to Preserve Your RV's Paint

1. Keep It Out of Direct Sunlight

While the RV will be under direct sunlight during road trips, you can minimize its exposure to prevent the auto paint from fading. During the off-season or between trips, park it under a carport. The UV rays from the sun can slowly wear down the luster of the RV’s paint. If a carport isn't an option, purchase a fabric cover that fits your RV perfectly. Make sure it's not too loose to prevent wildlife from taking refuge under the cover.

2. Don’t Park Under Trees

When it rains, water will drip from the tree's leaves onto the RV's roof. When enough water accumulates, it can cause several issues. First, the pooling water will overflow and leak onto the sides of the RV, reaching the body's paint. When leaves from the trees accumulate on the RV's body, the wetness under the leaves can cause the paint to warp or chip. Next, the pooling water could leak inside the RV, leading to mold and mildew growth. Finally, fallen branches can scratch the roofing and the auto paint.

3. Wash Off Bugs After Road Trips

After driving for hours, your RV can get covered in dead bugs. If left on the RV's body, the bugs can eventually degrade the paint. Additionally, the bugs will become caked onto the RV's surface. This will require extra strength to remove them and you can accidentally scratch the RV's surface while trying to clean the bugs off.

After every road trip, use a microfiber towel and a car-safe solution to clean the bugs off. Spray the surface and allow the solution to soak the bugs for several minutes. Then, gently wipe them away to avoid scratching the surface.
