Baseball is mostly played in the summer and fall, but if you have children who play all year round, you'll need to ensure they're taking proper precautions during the winter. Even in Florida, exposure to cooler temperatures than you are used to can keep muscles from contracting properly, which may lead to injuries during an active sport like baseball. Here are a few tips on how your kids can enjoy the game even when the weather gets chilly.

How Can Kids Stay Warm While Playing Baseball?

1. Long Sleeves & Leggings

Several brands make cold-weather baseball long-sleeves that are fleece-lined. Compression or turtleneck styles also help players stay warm, but if these materials are too thick and make your player feel constricted, have them wear a regular long-sleeve shirt under their jersey. Leggings worn under the pants will keep their legs warm. Standard fleece-lined are great choices, or they can choose compression leggings that also provide stability and improved blood flow to the muscles.

2. Batting Gloves & Hand Warmers

Your child will need warm hands to prevent cramping and decreased dexterity when it's time to swing the bat, so consider getting them cold-weather batting gloves with neoprene backing, which helps further insulate body warmth. If your child is pitching or in the outfield, they can keep a hand warmer in a back pocket to warm up their fingers between plays.

3. Dugout Warmup

When players rest in the dugout, they need to keep their muscles warm and relaxed for their next play. Give your kid gloves if they don't already have batting ones, and consider a beanie, coat, or face mask. These will help them stay warm and limber until they go back out on the field.
