Hitting the batting cages is a fun activity and an effective way to prepare your child for the baseball season. Baseball cages have some inherent danger to them, such as balls and bats moving quickly. Protect everyone as they have fun with some simple safety guidelines.

Safety Guidelines for the Batting Cages

1. Wear Your Helmet

The batting cages should provide everyone with helmets, to be worn while they are in the cages. Check that they fit properly – they shouldn’t squeeze the head, but your child should be able to move their head around quickly without it slipping loose. Wear the helmets at all times while in the facility.

2. Wear Appropriate Attire

batting cagesHave your children wear proper athletic shoes to give them plenty of grip. It’s easy to slip in inappropriate shoes when they are swinging. They should never wear any open-toed sandals, as this could leave their toes susceptible to injury and are easier to slip in. Have everyone wear loose-fitting clothing so they can move around freely.

3. Read all Posted Rules

The rules at the indoor batting cages are there for a reason. Read all posted rules and go over them with every participant. If you have any questions about them, ask the staff. It will be your responsibility as the parent to watch your children and ensure that they follow those rules.

4. Keep Spectators Back

Swinging bats and missed swings make being inside the cage a dangerous place. Only the batter should be inside the cage when it is operating. Keep all spectators well behind the hitter and a safe distance from the net.
