Baseball tryouts are coming up, and you might be feeling a little anxious. No matter how much experience you have, it’s natural and understandable to feel a bit nervous if you’re trying out for a team. However, if you keep in mind a few simple tips, you’ll be sure to play your best and awe the coaches.

4 Ways to Impress at Baseball Tryouts

1. Dress Appropriately

Wear a comfortable athletic shirt or even a jersey with the name of your favorite professional player, along with a pair of clean baseball pants or sweatpants. If you wear a hat, keep it facing forward. Of course, bring a good set of cleats and batting gloves, along with a quality mitt. By looking the part, you’ll immediately show the coach that you’re serious.

2. Arrive Early

If you get to the tryouts fifteen minutes early, consider yourself punctual. By arriving well before the tryouts are scheduled to begin, you’ll suggest to the coach that you’re reliable, trustworthy, and hard-working, especially if you use the extra time to practice your swing, jog around, or play catch with other potential teammates. It will also let you warm up and shake off your nerves.

3. Practice

baseballIn the weeks leading up to the tryouts, go to the batting cages to perfect your swing, giving attention to every detail of your form. With a friend or family member, spend time catching and throwing a ball back and forth from short and long distances, on the ground and in the air. Bounce balls off walls if you’re by yourself.

Go for a run every day, too. By building up your strength, endurance, and speed, and enhancing your baseball skills, you’ll get comfortable with your own style of playing and display your best at the tryouts.

4. Be Positive

Focus on having fun and encouraging your potential teammates to enjoy themselves, too. Help them if they struggle so that the coach can see what a dedicated teammate you would make. Also, look the coach in the eyes, listen to them intently, and follow their instructions with enthusiasm. If you make a mistake, don’t stress over it. Humbly acknowledge it and strive to do better without losing your confidence. This will prove that you can handle pressure well.
