During pregnancy, it's important to have discussions with not only your health care providers, but also expectant mothers on the same journey. Centering Pregnancy® is a group program focused on women’s health, prenatal care, and mutual support. Here’s why you might benefit from attending Centering Pregnancy sessions.

An Introduction to Prenatal Care Groups

What Is Centering Pregnancy?

Centering Pregnancy provides you with the opportunity to spend extra time with your health care provider, share experiences with expectant mothers that have similar due dates, and receive tips on taking care of yourself and your family. There are typically nine visits scheduled at your women’s health center between weeks 12 to 38 of pregnancy.

Sessions begin with a standard one-on-one health assessment, where you’ll record your own weight and blood pressure. After doing a belly check with your health care provider, you’ll then join the group for discussion. Each session focuses on a different topic, so you’ll have unique conversations and learn something new every visit.

Why Is It Beneficial?

women's healthPregnancy can be stressful, but it helps to know that you’re not alone. Through Centering Pregnancy, expectant mothers can relax, connect, and bond over shared experiences. A solid support system can create lifelong friendships as you venture through one of life’s most challenging but rewarding journeys together. Your group will work to uplift and instill confidence in every one of you.

This program also offers additional time to ask questions and talk to your health care provider. With each visit, you’ll have two hours to voice your concerns and learn more about pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. This information will be valuable for you, your partner, and your baby as you acquire proper techniques for labor and post-delivery care.

Meetings are facilitated by a health care provider, who will address critical women’s health topics and encourage active discussion among you and your peers. When you have a better understanding of what to expect from pregnancy, you’ll feel more confident and prepared to help your family thrive.
