Stay Up to Date on Travel Advisories During Hurricane Season
Sometimes Mother Nature isn’t always on our side when it comes to traveling. It’s important to track the weather on your route from departure to arrival to stay updated on any potential flight cancellations or inconveniences.
With weather storms coming in, like Hurricane Florence hitting the Southeast states, or Hurricane Olivia heading toward Hawaii, airlines often offer complimentary flight changes to ensure passenger safety. United, for example, sends updates to its travelers and gives them an Important Notice webpage to reference airport and transit system closures. Delta also provides weather advisories on its website Weather Bulletin and will notify travelers of options to rebook or refund their flights during these advisory periods.
Be sure to check your airline’s website for updates, or if you have booked with Town & Country Travel, call our office at 585-381-2850 or 800-747-2850 to get the latest information on your flight status and /or ground transportation. And as always, stay safe and happy travels!
**As a Board member of the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross, Town & Country Travel’s CEO Teresa Johnson has been informed by them that States of Emergency have been declared in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina for Hurricane Florence. The Red Cross is preparing to respond and urges anyone in the path of this hurricane to get ready also.
Hurricane Olivia is predicted to bring up to 20 inches of rain and strong winds to parts of Hawaii on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Typhoon Mangkhut is hitting Guam today, a US territory in the Pacific. The storm could bring winds as high as 139 mph with effects of the typhoon lasting several days. The Red Cross has deployed a disaster leadership team, satellite communications equipment and other resources to Guam and will assist with damage assessment after the storm passes.
People in the path of these storms should stay informed and take steps to get prepared now. Listen to local radio, NOAA radio, or TV stations for the latest information and updates, and obey any evacuation orders from local officials.
