A lot of the items you can buy in these countries are cheap, so keep bills equivalent to $1, $2, and $5 on hand. If your hotel does accept credit cards, be prepared to pay an additional fee on the total cost of your accommodations. 

3. Try the Food, Not the Water

The water in the region can be troublesome for Western stomachs, so it’s best to avoid it altogether. That means no drinking from the tap or even brushing your teeth with it. Instead, use bottled water that is readily available in convenience stores. However, eating the food is generally safe. Southeast Asia has plenty of street vendors who sell delicious local fares cooked right in front of you for a low price. 

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Bargain

Bargaining is not only welcomed at local markets in this region; it’s also expected. If you plan to do any shopping during your international travels, don’t shy away from politely making deals with street vendors. The process can make buying souvenirs a fun experience.
