When it comes to family planning, many women opt to have their fallopian tubes tied to prevent unwanted pregnancies. However, life changes, and some may want to regain this ability. Thankfully, this is where tubal reversal comes in. Also known as tubal ligation reversal, this surgery aims to reopen the fallopian tubes and restore fertility. If you're curious about this, here's what you need to know.

Tubal Reversal Basics

Process

During a tubal ligation, a surgeon will either tie, cut, or burn the ends of the fallopian tubes to prevent sperm from fertilizing an egg. As you might expect, a reversal will untie, reopen, and reconnect the tubes to the uterus. However, depending on how the ligation was originally performed, this isn't always possible.

To determine whether it is possible or feasible we review the report of your tubal ligation procedure to find out how it was done and also examine the status of your uterus and ovaries.

Dr.Joseph Hazan who has taught at Washington University and St. Louis University has improved this procedure to make it more effective and precise  and offers Advanced Tubal Reversal at the special rate of $5670 total which includes the surgery center and anesthesia.

On average, the surgery will take between two to three hours. The entire process is done with the patient under general anesthesia. You get to go home soon after the anesthesia wears off.

Alternatives

For those for whom tubal reversals aren't an option, an OB-GYN will recommend in vitro fertilization (IVF). This is a fertility process that does not rely on the fallopian tubes. Instead, doctors will fertilize an egg with sperm in a laboratory dish and then carefully place it into the womb. Although it doesn't require the kind of surgery like tubal reversal, it does require quite a bit of preparatory work, such as routinely injecting oneself with fertility drugs to prepare the body.
