Summer will be here before you know it, which means it's time to start thinking about seasonal auto repair and maintenance. Car care is more important than ever during summer due to rising temperatures. Accordingly, here are a few important steps to take before the season arrives to ensure your vehicle is fully protected.

How to Care for Your Vehicle During the Summer Season

1. Check Your Tire Pressure

Tire pressure can fluctuate along with the temperature. As a result, your tires may not be filled to the proper PSI as the seasons change. Fort Mitchell Garage recommends inflating your tires to a few PSI listed on the inside of your door jamb but not above the tire sidewall maximum. The higher tire pressure gives a margin of error to keep tires from falling below the minimum figure printed on the vehicle placard, which is not applicable in most situations. If you notice your tires are consistently low, it's probably time to have them checked for leaks or replace them.

2. Schedule an Oil Change

Oil is a major component of a well-functioning engine. In addition to lubricating moving parts, oil also aids in cooling your engine. irreversible damage. Engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles, especially if you are driving mostly in a 'severe condition' area like the Greater Cincinnati area where we experience stop & start driving, long periods of idling, (like on I-75 waiting on the bridge), short trips,(5 miles or less), lots of hills and wide temperature swings.

3. Have Your Battery Tested

High or low temperatures can have a detrimental impact on batteries. As a result, a battery that is nearing the end of its life span may end up failing when subjected to hot, humid summer weather. Having the battery tested by an auto repair specialist can help you determine whether it's time for a replacement, which will save you a major hassle when it comes to breakdowns.
