Whirlpool® gas ranges offer incredible control so you can perfectly sautee, fry, and brown your favorite foods. However, these residential appliances require regular cleaning to ensure they’re sanitary and safe to operate. Here’s some advice on maintaining your gas range at home.

How Do You Clean a Whirlpool Gas Range?

1. Let the Cooktop Cool

Before cleaning the stove, wait at least half an hour after using the burners. Trying to clean the surface when it's still warm can result in injury and potentially damage the stove, as sponges or other materials might melt onto the range.

2. Remove Detachable Parts

Stoves often harbor grease and crumbs in areas that are tricky to reach. When cleaning this residential appliance, remove any detachable parts, including the knobs, burner caps, and bases, so you can better clean the entire surface.

3. Clean the Fuel Ports

residential appliancesEvery burner base will feature fuel ports where gas flows to light the burner. Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe off these areas, but avoid soaps, as they may be flammable. If the burners are clogged or not working, clean these areas with a pin to remove burnt food or grease that's stopping the gas flow.

4. Wipe Everything Else

Use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth with degreasing dish soap or mild cleaner to wipe down the cooking surface. Sweep crumbs and debris into your hand and toss them in the trash, or plan to sweep the kitchen immediately after addressing the stove. Then, wipe off the oven window and knob area to remove grease.

5. Degrease Grates

Stovetop grates and burner caps are some of the most difficult residential appliance parts to clean, as they may feature layers of caked-on grease. Relieve this oily mess by removing the grates and caps from your Whirlpool range and placing them on a piece of newspaper. Spray the metal parts with commercial oven cleaner and leave them for several hours. Then, run a sink full of hot water and dish soap and scrub the mess off.

6. Replace Everything

Ensure every part of the stove is dry before replacing the burner bases, caps, grates, and knobs. Turn each burner on one at a time to ensure the stove is in top shape, and contact a repair team if a clogged burner is still not working correctly.
