4 Tips for Looking Your Best in Front of the Camera on Your Wedding Day (they’re not what you think)
If you’re like most couples, your wedding will probably be the biggest most wonderful party you’ll ever throw. When the day is done, you’ll have each other, your shared memories, and soon after, your wedding pictures. Looking your best in those photos is certainly important, and while you may have expected traditional beauty tips here, my advice below is definitely still that and so much more.
1. Be Deeply in Love with Your Partner on Your Wedding Day
Every day; whether you think someone out there is listening or not, take a moment. Picture your partner, note some of the things you love about them; consider how grateful you are to have them in your life. Gratitude is powerful emotion; in all of the best images I’ve ever taken of couples you can sense it. Gratitude is also the fuel that powers long lasting relationships; nurture that gratitude.
2. Chose a photographer that helps you feel beautiful and confident during the session
If a photographer can give clear direction, it will boost your confidence during the session. As the shoot continues, they can give less direction. Before booking them, ask to see 3 full galleries (not just the highlights) preferably at your wedding location or a similar one and see if they can create consistently wonderful work. If budget permits pick a package with an engagement session, as it’s an additional way for you to connect and build confidence in their abilities on your wedding day.
3. Create a wedding day timeline
Having a timeline builds confidence, and confidence is important for great pictures. Before choosing a ceremony start time, work with your photographer or wedding planner to create a timeline and be sure to add breathing room for unforeseen delays. Once you’ve made a draft, share it with your other wedding professionals to ensure your timeline is on track. Revise until planning is complete and share it with your attendants and your wedding team.
4. On Your Wedding Day: Stay Present and in the Moment; be Grateful for this Wonderful Experience
This is your wedding day, all the hard work of preparation is done. And if everything you’d planned to do before this day isn’t done that’s ok too. No wedding ever had everything go precisely to plan and your wedding will be perfectly imperfect too. What matters is you are surrounded by your favorite people in the world who are celebrating the union between you and your best friend. Take it in, it will make you grateful and joyful beyond measure. … and that joy, it really looks good on you.
