When picking out new cabinets, there are numerous hardware options available. The handles contribute to the overall look of the cabinetry and make it easier to open and close doors and drawers. Knobs and pulls are popular handle options to consider for your home remodeling project. For help choosing between the two, here is a brief overview of each.

Knobs

Although there are no specific rules for where to place cabinet knobs and pulls, the former are typically installed on the door panels. Knobs are commonly round, although oval, rectangular, and square shapes are also popular. The fixtures are small enough to grip in the palm of the hand.

The cabinetry style should dictate the knob style you choose. Ornate hardware (such as knobs with colorful enamel, floral motifs made of metal, and vintage glass) complement the raised panels of shaker cabinets in traditional-style kitchens and bathrooms. Simple round knobs made of steel or nickel complement flat-panel cabinets in a contemporary or modern design scheme.

Pulls

Whereas knobs are commonplace on cabinet doors, pulls are usually located on drawers below the kitchen countertops or bathroom vanities. Pulls are long slender bars you can wrap your fingers around to open or close the drawers without straining your wrists.

Curved metal pulls with decorative feet or exposed screws complement raised-panel drawers in traditional interiors. Sleek, tubular pulls and flat bars look best on flat-panel drawers in a modern home.
