There’s something about living in a warm climate that makes soaking up the sun second nature, but don't forget to give your skin some TLC when you head back indoors. Here are three simple skin care tips to keep your complexion bright and blemish-free in balmy climates.

How to Take Care of Your Skin in a Warm Climate

1. Use Lightweight Products

While oils, serums, and thicker moisturizers can make good nighttime treatments, use lighter-weight skin care products during the day. These will still provide hydration without overwhelming your skin in combination with your natural oils and perspiration. Thicker products are more likely to clog pores in warm, humid climates, leading to irritation or acne. To protect your skin from UV rays, skip the heavy lotion and opt for oil-free, quick-dry sunscreen.

2. Cleanse Twice a Day

In a hot climate, the skin releases more oils and toxins as you perspire. When you wake up each morning, wash away any nighttime moisturizer, oils, and sweat that may have combined while you slept. Over the course of the day, perspiration, makeup, moisturizer, and sunscreen form a barrier on your skin that needs to be washed off completely to prevent your pores from clogging overnight.

3. Exfoliate Regularly

To avoid dullness, blemishes, and irritation, exfoliate at least once a week. Chemical exfoliators like AHAs and BHAs will gently remove the top layers of dead skin cells from your complexion, and they won’t tear or irritate skin like the small granules in exfoliating scrubs can. Since oils and dead skin cells usually accumulate faster in warm climates, exfoliation can help keep your pores clean and your skin bright.
