Facials help remove blemishes and revitalize your skin. If you’ve scheduled your first session, you want to properly prepare to achieve lasting results. Use the following tips and follow any guidelines your skin care professional has provided.

What to Do Before Your First Facial

1. Limit Sun Exposure

Avoid the temptation to sunbathe or visit the tanning salon before your appointment. Long-term sun exposure will damage your skin, so it will be less receptive to treatments.

Sunburns may also create other complications, ranging from loose skin to cancer. Wear at least an SPF 30 sunscreen to protect yourself before your treatment.

2. Don’t Wear Makeup

facials-kailuaMakeup and other cosmetic products can get in the way of your treatment, so show up bare-faced. As an alternative, show up to your appointment 15 minutes early to remove your makeup if you’re having it done during your lunch break.

After the appointment, wait several hours before you apply makeup again, so your skin has a chance to breathe.

3. Don’t Irritate Your Skin

Don’t schedule any waxing treatments for at least 48 hours before your facial. Also, be careful when drying and cleaning your face; only dab lightly with a towel rather than scrubbing.

Don’t try any new skin care products, as they may cause irritation, and avoid strong exfoliating products. Exfoliation is the goal of a facial, and you’ll get the best results by leaving it to a professional.

4. Hydrate Your Skin

Hydrated skin looks healthier and will respond better to the facial, so drink plenty of water every day. You can also apply water-based moisturizers or spritzes with a spray throughout the day.
