If you’re going to travel on a charter bus for a trip or special event, it’s important to be courteous to other travelers. If you’re not accustomed to traveling in a group, it can be easy to overlook the basics. By following a few simple etiquette tips, however, you can make the experience much more comfortable and positive for everyone involved.

Do:

Show up on time.

Don’t delay the trip for everyone else by showing up late for the scheduled departure. By arriving on time or even a bit early, you can take your time finding a seat and getting comfortable without throwing off the excursion’s timeline.

Use headphones when enjoying entertainment.

It’s fine to enjoy some music, a podcast, or a movie on your mobile device during the trip. However, you shouldn’t force those around you to listen to your entertainment choices. Bring a nice set of headphones and keep the volume at a reasonable level.

Keep your possessions to a minimum.

If you’re bringing bags or extra supplies on your trip, try to keep them on you or in the designated luggage spaces. Don’t allow them to spill over into other seats, taking up valuable space for other passengers.

Don’t:

Carry on loud conversations.

Force others to interact with you.

On the other hand, if you’re sitting by someone you don’t know, it’s polite to engage in some friendly small talk. Saying hi and asking a few quick questions is acceptable, but avoid carrying on a full conversation if they don’t seem interested or if they put headphones on or start reading. They may prefer a quiet journey.

Eat messy or smelly foods.

It’s fine to enjoy a quick snack on the bus, especially if it’s a lengthy trip. However, you should try to keep it fairly simple, such as trail mix, a basic sandwich, or a granola bar. Consuming messy or pungent foods can dampen the experience for those around you.
