1. Greenbrier River Trail

A bike trail during the summer, this 78-mile pathway becomes a ski lover's dream once the snow starts falling. You’ll see plenty of historic bridges, train tunnels, and rushing rivers set along a former rail bed. The trail passes through several scenic towns as it crosses the countryside, so there are plenty of access points and opportunities to take hot chocolate breaks.

2. Cranberry Glades

As one of the most expansive wilderness parks in the area, visitors who come with their own skis can navigate its 100 miles of trails, while also enjoying the rare plant and animal inhabitants of the region that are typically found in arctic regions.

This area provides a fun and unique experience for cross-country skiers of any level, as well as longer technical trails for those looking for some solid winter cardio. The best trail is the 20-mile ski loop that keeps you in the most frequented areas, but temperatures can fluctuate quickly, so come prepared with plenty of food, water, and gear to stay safe and warm.
