Overpacking and forgetting important items are common mistakes many people make when getting ready to go on vacation. To create more room in your suitcase for souvenirs, let what you plan to do on the trip factor into which items to bring along. To prevent accidentally leaving essentials at home, below is a guide to a few important belongings to pack.

3 Items to Take on Vacation

1. Clothing to Layer

Check the local weather forecast for the dates you will be on vacation. Instead of filling your suitcase with bulky wool sweaters to stay warm on cool nights, pack cotton T-shirts and long-sleeve shirts instead. The lightweight fabric will take up less room in your suitcase, and you can add or take off layers to remain comfortable. Having versatile pieces also allows you to re-wear items with different outfits. If the weather calls for rain, pack a water-repellent jacket and shoes that won’t soak through while you explore the destination. Ensure that you pair your outfits with the activities on your itinerary so that you are comfortable on your daily excursions.

2. Travel-Size Toiletries

vacationDue to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations, passengers can no longer bring full-size bottles containing creams, pastes, liquids, gels, and aerosols on airplanes. So you pass the security checkpoint at the airport, buy travel-size versions of your skin, hair, and bathing products beforehand. The toiletries should be no more than 3.4 ounces. Put the items, along with any medications you need, in a clear makeup bag so TSA agents can see the contents easily.

3. Electronics & Chargers

If you want to take pictures during your travels and update social media followers, don’t forget to pack your camera, tablet, and laptop as well as your smartphone. Invest in protective covers to prevent damage to electronics in transit. As you might not be able to find replacements for forgotten chargers, double-check you have all the necessary cords and additional attachments packed in the suitcase, too.
