Allegro Rises Challenges Posed By COVID19
Rising to the Challenge at Allegro
When Governor Walz closed schools to slow the spread of Covid-19, Allegro School of Dance & Music moved quickly to develop creative solutions to serve their students. They knew that regular routines and familiar faces would be key to maintaining good mental health and positive connections during these uncertain times. After many hours spent brainstorming and planning, the Allegro team moved to embrace new digital platforms in their mission to stay connected with students and their families. In the space of a week, staff members customized and populated the online class structure that allows teachers and students to connect via online video, while dance faculty devised in-home spaces suitable for teaching and adapted their methods to the new format. Allegro owner Janet Johnson said, “I am so proud of our entire team. Their endlessly positive outlook and willingness to adapt meant we could launch our online learning a week before the public schools began teaching online. Now, more than ever, we need the arts to lift our spirits and move our bodies. I know my teaching staff is thrilled to see their students’ smiling faces in class once again.” Additionally, Allegro is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this school year. A large reception for students, families, faculty, and alumni was planned for the weekend of June 6th. With much uncertainty regarding the restrictions on gatherings, faculty and staff are currently visualizing
innovative ways to present Allegro’s Spring Dance Concert. Everyone is committed to finishing strong.
