Driving without a working air conditioner during warm weather is uncomfortable and irritating. Thankfully, most AC systems have telltale symptoms of failure before they stop working. If you notice any of the following warning signs, visit your local auto repair shop to avoid getting stuck in the heat.

How to Tell Your Car Needs AC Repairs

1. No Cold Air

When your car’s AC stops producing cold air, you should visit an auto repair shop. This doesn’t mean it must blow out hot air; it could be less cold than before. Ideally, you can fix this by adding refrigerant to the system, but it might be more severe, so get a professional check.

2. Strange Sounds

If you notice a rattling or banging noise occurs when you turn on the AC, there is a definite problem. However, this noise could be one of several issues, including debris lodged in the motor blower, a worn condenser, or a failing compressor belt.

3. Pooling Water

Your AC doesn’t only cool the cabin. It is also a dehumidifier, removing moisture from the interior and pulling it through a drain hose to deposit outside. If your AC is malfunctioning, water could drip underneath your dashboard. If you notice an increase in moisture or spot stains on your floorboard, visit an auto repair shop.
