County Executive Spotlights Local Artists in Room with a View Exhibit
SUMMIT COUNTY—Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro recently welcomed the work of local artist, Dan Rowland, to the Ohio Building. Continuing the tradition of her predecessors, Executive Shapiro regularly rotates the artwork of local artists in her office’s conference room through a partnership with Summit Artspace. The goal of the program, known as Room with a View, is to highlight the work of local artists and provide them a public platform to showcase their creations.
“I am passionate about supporting and promoting arts and culture in Summit County,” said Executive Shapiro. “I believe local artists contribute much to our community and I am delighted to provide a stage for our talented residents.”
Dan Rowland has been a photographer for over 35 years. He studied commercial photography at The University of Akron and is trained in the Zone System, advanced darkroom techniques and unsharp masking for the black and white darkroom. He is a full-time photographer working in the field and owns a small studio on Kenmore Boulevard.
The Room with a View exhibit began in 2003. For the past two years, Executive Shapiro’s staff has worked with Summit Artspace to select an artist. The art is rotated every four months.
