Once your teen has made it to the final year of high school, they deserve to be celebrated for their hard work. Scheduling school portraits will help commemorate this time in their lives, creating a professional, dignified, and attractive set of photographs that can be treasured forever. As your student prepares for their shoot, use these tips to help them create timeless images.

A Guide for High School Senior Portraits

1. Choose the Right Outfit

Depending on the overall mood of your child’s photo shoot, the wardrobe could range from sports team apparel to a formal dress or tux. No matter what they plan on wearing, focus on simplicity.

Choose a solid-colored blouse instead of a patterned one. Frilly clothes and items with eye-catching graphics and logos are more likely to look outdated in the future. These designs can also steal attention away from your teen’s beautiful face.

2. Don’t Forget Hair & Makeup

If your teen doesn’t regularly wear a full face of makeup with contour and false eyelashes, then have them aim for a more natural face of makeup for their photo shoot. If your son normally sports a crew cut, he shouldn’t attempt a faux-hawk for the photo shoot. Sticking with their signature look will allow them to be more comfortable and confident during the portrait session.

3. Make It Personal

Senior portraits are your teen’s chance to shine. These photographs will capture what they were like in their youth and where their passions lie. If they’re invested their time in a certain sport or art form, consider using this session to highlight those activities. Have them bring their ballet or baseball clothes and accessories, and practice some poses at home that reference the activity.

Perhaps they're involved in your family’s culture or religion or like to spend their free time reading. By wearing a sari or leaning against a stack of their favorite classic novels, your teen’s senior portraits will be truly one-of-a-kind.
