Now that you and your fiance are ready to exchange “I do’s,” it’s time to start planning the big day. From organizing your guest list to securing the wedding venue, you’ll have much to prepare over the next year. Use the checklist below to ensure the process goes flawlessly.

12 Months

You and your fiance should begin planning about 12 months out from the wedding. Before you do anything, you’ll need to create a reasonable budget. Once you figure out your finances, shop around for wedding venues, planners, and vendors for the ceremony and reception, assemble your wedding party, and start putting together a guest list.

8 to 11 Months

From here, you'll be doing plenty of tours, taste tests, and reservations. Use these months to officially book your wedding venue, vendors, planner, and officiant. Find and select your dream wedding dress to allow time for alterations and fittings, and mail out "save the date" cards as you refine your guest list.

4 to 7 Months

You should also order your cake and decide on wedding flowers. Then, book a venue for your rehearsal dinner, as well as transportation for guests and yourselves, and rent or buy a flattering, high-quality tuxedo.

2 to 3 Months

By the two- to three-month mark, a majority of your wedding planning will be complete. The main goals at this time will be to send out invitations and apply for your marriage license. Finalize and confirm all arrangements with the wedding party, venue, and vendors, and find some quiet time between the excitement of planning to begin writing your vows.

1 Month

During the final month, you should pick up your wedding rings and marriage license. Complete your final fittings and make sure you've paid the wedding venue and all vendors in full. Gather a final headcount on guests, then work together to design a seating chart everyone will be happy with. Most importantly, get ready to celebrate your big day!
