Storage

Industrial buildings that do not allow clients or members of the public inside can store up to 300 pounds of propane. However, if you have a dedicated room for storing propane bottles and tanks, you can store up to 10,000 pounds.

These tanks cannot block exits or stairways, and they cannot be in high-traffic areas. Each cylinder should be far away from flammable and combustible materials, and stay behind safety cages or cabinets that do not collect water. In addition, these tanks cannot be in extreme heat or spaces that go above 120 degrees. 

Usage

Any member of your staff that handles propane must receive proper training and authorization to handle liquefied petroleum gas containers. Employees cannot handle them with excessive force or metal tools, and they also cannot roll or bang the valves together.

To use propane tanks, individuals must wear the appropriate personal protection equipment, including gloves and eye protection. Smoking and flammables are not permitted anywhere near tanks in operation. 

Transportation

While cylinders are durable and can handle high pressure, proper care is necessary when transporting them. Tanks in transit should always be upright and you must seal or close their valves. You must also be away from main roads and individuals who are smoking when loading or unloading them. During transit, the storage area should have adequate ventilation in case of a leak. Additionally, the tanks cannot be in a contained space in hot weather.
