When it comes to vacation planning for the winter, Japan is a popular place to visit. Not only does it feature an assortment of breathtaking views, but several seasonal activities that you won't want to miss. Each offers a glimpse into the uniqueness of the culture and creates a memorable moment. Here's a closer look to help you finalize your itinerary.

Why Travel to Japan in the Winter?

1. Illuminations

While stringing up lights is a common way to celebrate the holidays, Japan takes it one step further. Beloved landmarks, including Odori Park and Ashikaga Flower Park, are decorated using many sparkling lights, sound effects, and animations to bring these features to life. Ask a travel service about these illuminations when vacation planning, as each location will have a different concept every year. Previous themes for these events have included a three-ring circus and a science fiction adventure.

2. Onsens

Japan is known for its natural hot springs, with over 2,300 of them in the country. The high level of minerals makes them beneficial for your skin. For example, silica provides a level of exfoliation and ensures a youthful glow. An Onsen can also help reduce the symptoms of acne and eczema.

While the hot springs are open year-round, surrounding yourself with warmth while exposing your face to the cold winter air can have a transcendent effect. The two extremes allow the mind to relax fully and will cause any pent-up stress to melt away.

3. Mount Fuji

Winter is the time of year when Mount Fuji experiences a brilliant phenomenon. Known as "Diamond Fuji," the sun appears to rest on the peak of the volcano as it begins to set and produces a gem-like appearance. This only occurs twice a year, sometime between mid-October and late February, and can be difficult to capture. Even if you miss this dazzling effect, the volcano itself is still an attractive spectacle. The skies are usually clear during the cold season and will provide a picture-perfect view of the top.
