Pressure washing equipment can help you clean your building’s exterior features efficiently. Most companies use this equipment regularly throughout the spring and summer, then store it for the winter. Before placing it in the corner of your warehouse, a few simple steps can help you ensure this important tool is in good condition when you need it again next year.

How to Get Pressure Washing Equipment Ready for Winter

1. Flush the System

If water is left in your pressure washer’s pump or hoses over the winter, that water can freeze and expand, causing those components to crack or burst.

To prevent this, simply remove all water from the pump system by placing the injection tube into an empty container and then let it run on low until all the water is gone. You can also run antifreeze through the system and then disconnect the hoses.

2. Prep the Gas Tank

Gasoline breaks down over time when not in use, which can lead to corrosion within the gas tank and engine. Prevent this by draining the tank completely or filling it up and adding a fuel stabilizer. If you choose the latter option, be sure to run the engine for a few minutes so the stabilizer spreads throughout the fuel system.

3. Add Oil & Lubricant

Engine oil can also break down over the winter, which could lead to sludge buildup around your engine components. Changing the oil before winter keeps the parts lubricated and avoids buildup that could cause sluggishness in the engine. Additionally, spray additional lubricant into the carburetor and engine cylinders. Then allow it to run for a few minutes to spread that lubricant throughout the engine.
