Winter is upon us, but for some that doesn’t slow down the need for pressure washing. Winterizing your pressure washer is vital for the cold, winter months. The risk of a split coil, pump, and hose damage are vital reasons for being sure your machine is ready for the winter months.  Reasons for needing to winterize your pressure washer: possibility for transportation, outside use, or cold storage.

Storage and Transporting your Pressure Washer

Storing your pressure washer in a warm shed during the winter months is a great idea if possible. If not winterizing your pressure washer is vital. Moisture remains in your coil, pump, hoses, gun, and wand after each use. Running antifreeze through your entire pressure washer will keep it from freezing.

Common Problem to happen from a frozen Pressure Washer

Split coils are a common problem to occur with not winterizing your pressure washer. If you have to move your pressure washer outside for washing, have it in cold storage, or transport your pressure washer in low temperatures of 35 degrees or low can lead to your coil splitting. When traveling with your pressure washer to a different work site, or going in for repair it is often forgotten to winterize. This can lead to your coil splitting which can cost thousands of dollars to replace.

Additional Damage

In addition to damaging your coil from not winterizing, there are other parts of your pressure washer that can also be damaged. Fittings, pistons, pump head and hoses can be cracked from ice inside swelling. Making sure your gun and wand is completely drained is good to do as well. It is helpful to store them upside down so that the water is completely drained out of them.
