golf scramble is a relaxed, informal, team-based tournament wherein each member of the team takes turns, but usually only the best ball is counted. Everyone then plays from their team’s best lie.  It is ideal for corporate outings, family reunions, and other large groups. However, because the rules, by definition , can be bent, a scramble is open to numerous variations. Below are some variants you can adopt to spice up your tournament.

3 Steps to a Livelier Golf Scramble

1. Reward Bad Play

Administrators select six holes at random in advance but do not reveal to players which holes they are. At the final point tally, teams multiply their strokes on these six holes by 1.5 and subtract them from their total. This randomly transforms a bad play into an advantage. It is an ideal tweak for groups of mixed players, permitting even weaker golfers to contribute.

2. Play from the Worst Lie

Known as "worst shot golf" or "a reverse scramble", teams must play the worst, rather than best, shot each round. This wrinkle is ideal for groups of skilled golfers. It makes the tournament even more challenging and encourages everyone to give their all, each time they swing the club.

3. Choose One Club Per Hole

Teams still play the best hole of the round, but they may only use one club per hole. They choose the club before teeing off, and must stick with it through driving, chipping, and putting, until they begin the next hole. Another variation is to have the administrators, rather than the players, choose which club must be used.
