If you love golf, you likely don’t need a lot of incentive to hit the golf course other than a nice day. But it can be fun to try different variations of the game to challenge yourself and make the same course feel new again. Here are a few to try with your friends the next time you hit the green.
4 Games to Mix It Up on the Golf Course
1. Scramble
A scramble is a team play designed to maximize fun and level the playing field. Each team member takes a shot, then every player takes the next shot from the spot deemed best by the team. This allows all players’ abilities to shine and promotes teamwork.
2. Flag Tournaments
Each player gets a pre-determined number of strokes, typically a set number plus the players’ individual handicaps. They then play until they run out of strokes. The players then mark their final spots with a flag. The player who makes it the farthest wins.
3. String
Players are given a length of string based on their handicap, with higher handicaps getting longer strings. The players can then spend the string to improve a shot in a bad place. They trim off a length of the string and move the ball that distance in any direction. Once a portion of the string has been spent, it’s gone for good.
4. Chapman
After each player hits their tee shot, players on the same team switch places and hit each other’s balls for the second stroke. After the second stroke, the team decides which ball is in the best position, and they take the other balls out of play. The team then takes turns playing from a single ball.
