What to Bring When Buying a Car

1. Proof of Income

The dealership can assist you with the application for an auto loan, but they'll need to see proof of income.

You could present the salesperson with your most recent bank statement or the most recent pay stub from your place of employment. The pay stub will prove that you're working and show how much you earn from the job, while the bank statement shows other income, direct deposits, and the monthly balance. 

2. Valid Driver's License

Before a car salesperson can finalize the sale, they need to know if you can legally drive a car. Bring a government-issued driver's license with you to the dealership. The license must not be expired, and you can't have suspended driving privileges. You can't buy a car or test-drive anything without it.

3. Proof of Residency

When completing paperwork for an auto loan, the lender will require proof that you reside in the location you listed on the application. Documents that can prove residency include a utility bill, bank statement, or insurance policy for your home or current vehicle.
