A covered garage is always the best place to keep a car, providing a sheltered area free of potential hazards. However, this isn't always available at work or when you're running errands. In such situations, knowing where not to park is vital for protecting your auto glass and paint. The following locations should be avoided whenever possible.

Where Are the Worst Places to Park Your Car?

1. Near Large Vehicles

You should look for a parking spot without other cars around it to reduce the risk of door dings. However, if options are limited, still try to avoid parking near larger vehicles. Because they take up more room, these cars make the clearance area smaller, which increases the risk of other people hitting your side mirror or door when they’re getting in or out of their vehicle.

2. Under Trees

Parking under a tree may provide shade to keep your vehicle cool, but nuts and branches could fall from the tree and crack the windshield or dent the roof of your car. Tree sap or bird droppings can also prove corrosive to the paint, eating away at the topcoat. Opt for an open area instead. If you want to keep the interior of your car cooler, consider investing in a reflective sunshade.

3. Near Construction Zones

Construction zones have hazards for both vehicles and pedestrians. It is fairly common for a rock kicked up by passing construction equipment to crack or chip nearby windshields. There might also be an accident as they try to maneuver their equipment in and out of the lot. Because of this, many construction teams set up temporary “no parking” zones near the project site to protect their team and others. Ignoring such signs could get you a ticket.
