Day eleven of social distancing and the walls are starting to close in. It’s important that we all adhere to the social distancing guidelines, but it doesn’t mean we can’t be productive during this time. Change your mindset from, ‘I’m going stir crazy’ to ‘this could be fun and productive.’

Here are some ideas of things to do while you practice social distancing:

Write a letter – Write and mail a letter to a friend or family member that you may not talk to often.  Make a handmade card of encouragement for a neighbor or someone in a facility that may be closed off to visitors and mail it.

Spring clean your home – organize closets, organize your garage, do some of the daunting tasks at home that you never seem to have time for in your day to day routine life.  Clean the baseboards, ceiling fans, windows, etc. – some of the items that don’t get routine attention.

Catch up on your TV shows – or start a new series. Binge-watch shows guilt free! When will this ever happen again?!

Video chat with friends and family – you can FaceTime, video chat on Facebook messenger, or maybe try a new app like Houseparty. Enjoy hanging out virtually using some of these resources!

Work out – working out at home can be fun and easy. YouTube has a lot of videos available for working out at home.  There are also professional dancers offering Master classes, trainers offering work out videos, coaches offering sport training programs, etc. free of charge.  These can help keep you as well as your loved ones active and continuing to take care of your health.

Play Games – Go old school with games like Solitaire, Monopoly, Pictionary, Life and other board games…. Heads Up and Cards Against Humanity are a few other good ones.

Go outside – You can still go outside just be smart about it. Go on a bike ride or walk around your neighborhood remembering to follow the social distancing guidelines. Enjoy the sunshine, bring your dog for a walk.  Complete some of that yard work that gets put off, i.e. pulling weeds, trimming bushes.

Cook – Now’s the time to try that recipe you’ve been meaning to make. Go all out, you have the time. Then dress up for dinner, use cloth napkins (they’re at the top of the linen closet beside the Christmas tablecloth) .

Support Local – Try to support local businesses as much as possible.  Lots of businesses, especially small businesses (like ours), may be struggling, if open at all, during this time.  Supporting our community and local businesses will help!  Buy a gift card to use later, get take out if available, buy a gift for a friend from a local business.

Whatever you do during this time, remember to follow the social distancing guidelines.  Remember to wash your hands and keep your distance!

Stay positive during this time, be encouraging to others.  Everyone is experiencing this in their own way, relative to their situation.  We can all help each other during this time with positive, encouraging words and actions!
