When you think about the best basketball players, consider that without speed and strength, they couldn’t perform as well as they do. Thus, to become a better basketball player, you’ll want to increase your stamina and endurance. Add the drills below to your training routine to improve both aspects and become a better player.

What Are the Best Basketball Drills for Stamina & Endurance?

1. Sprints

Sprints recreate the speedy movements you must make on the court. For a half sprint, start at the baseline, run to the half-court line and then back to the baseline. In one session, you might repeat this 10 times. With a full-court sprint, you start at the baseline, sprint to the opposite baseline, touch it, and return to the starting baseline. You might repeat this 5 times.

As you build endurance and stamina, you can begin running faster during this drill. This will serve you well when dribbling or defending on the court.

2. Full Court Layup

basketballStart at the baseline and dribble to the opposite basket. Try to dribble the ball ahead of you so that you’re working to catch up to it. Try to get across the court with as few dribbles as possible while also keeping your eyes ahead for imaginary teammates and defenders. Dribble up to the basket for a right-handed layup. Repeat on the opposite basket with a left-handed layup. This drill is excellent for preparing you for high pressure moments when the basketball is in your hands.

3. 30-Second Line Touch

This drill is ideal for developing agility and the ability to change directions quickly. It involves trying to touch each baseline on the court 3 times within 30 seconds. Even if you don’t make it at first, the drill simulates the pressure you’ll feel and speed you’ll need to move efficiently during a game. Between each drill, give yourself a 30 second break. As you practice, you’ll cut down the time it takes you to complete it.
