Event Information

Smelling skunks around your home?  Skunks are in their mating season.  They are on the move looking for a mate as well as a nice safe place to have their young.  Adult skunks begin breeding in late February.  Babies are born late April to early June.  They have one litter per year that usually consist of 1-7 babies.  Skunks are nocturnal so they are active at night.  Skunks prefer to dine on insects such as grubs, worms, grasshoppers and beetles.  Their strong forefeet and long nails make for easy digging in lawns, golf courses or gardens in search of insects.  Skunks also eat fruits, berries and small rodents such as mice.  Skunks like to live under concrete stoops, patio’s, sheds, decks, barns,  brush piles or abandoned animal dens.  They travel about 2 miles from their den each night in search of food and water.

Has your pet been sprayed by a skunk?  Follow this recipe to reduce or remove skunk odor. You will need ¼ cup of baking soda, 1 qt of 3% hydrogen peroxide, and 1 tsp of liquid dish soap.  Mix these ingredients together and use immediately.  The chemical reaction produced from these ingredients last only a limited time.  When using this formula on a pet, be sure to rinse with water.  Do not let the solution soak for more than a few minutes.
