With the current restrictions in place for COVID-19, you may no longer be sure if Hawaii is open for tourists and visitors. Fortunately, tourists are still able to visit, as long as they follow a few simple precautions and are willing to adhere to the local safety measures. Whether you have a vacation rental already booked or are considering a reservation, take a closer look at the following safety procedures to help you prepare.

Who Can Travel to Hawaii?

Individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are able to travel to Hawaii without the need for pre-testing or having to quarantine after their arrival. Proof of vaccination with your name, birth date, type of vaccine, and the dates of administration is all that's required to enter the state. Travelers must register online with the Safe Travels: State of Hawaii program, where they will upload a copy of their vaccination card.

Non-vaccinated visitors will have to undergo a 10-day quarantine upon arrival. Those who can show proof of a negative result from a nucleic acid amplification test will not have to quarantine, however. The test must be administered by a trusted facility at least 72 hours before your flight.

What Safety Measures Will I Have to Follow?

Keep your vaccination card or COVID-19 test result on hand at all times. Restaurants, movie theaters, and other recreational settings now only grant entry to those who are able to show that they are vaccinated or have tested negative within the last 48 hours. Those who are picking up an order and spending less than 15 minutes inside are exempt. The cut-off for alcohol sales and consumption within an establishment now ends at 10 p.m.

Make sure to wear a mask when in close proximity to other people who are not in your family or group except when eating or drinking. Indoor gatherings should be no larger than 10 people, while outdoor events are limited to 25.
