Although golf is a great sport for everyone, left-handed golfers have particular challenges to overcome to play the game well. However, with some research and practice, you’ll find that golf is just as fun and doable as anything else for left-handed people.

3 Suggestions for Left-Handed Golfers to Improve Their Game

1. Adjust Your Form

Before trying to swing your club, pay attention to your form. Keep your right shoulder (or leading shoulder) angled upward, which will help the ball sail high into the air. Also, put your right hand on top of the club and your left hand just beneath it, close to the bottom of the grip. Your grasp should be firm and focused in your fingers rather than the palm.

2. Swing to Your Advantage

golf-Saint Louis, MOWhen beginning a backswing, rotate carefully on your left leg so that it’s perfectly aligned with your left shoulder, hip, and knee. Let your right knee bend slightly toward your left to support the full rotation, which should be led with your right hip. As you swing the golf club behind you, keep it in the area between your ears and allow your left hand to finish the swing. Make sure your knees draw close enough to brush against each other. Your left foot should rise to its toes as your entire body rotates with a full follow-through.

3. Use the Left-Hand Only Drill

If you’re not careful, a left-handed swing may cause you to lean the shaft too far back, resulting in a bladed or skulled shot. To encourage yourself to lean the shaft forward instead, practice swinging and holding the club still with just your left hand at the bottom of the grip. When you try it, you’ll find that you get a squarer hit.
