Maui is one of the most beautiful locations on Earth. It offers everything you could want from a vacation destination, including pristine beaches, delicious dining, and shopping opportunities. However, before you book a hotel room, below are the dos and don'ts of visiting Maui and the other Hawaiian Islands.
Do:
Enjoy the Attractions.
For sheer visual splendor, you can't miss a trip down the Hana Highway. Widely regarded as the most scenic road in all of Hawaii, it takes you past a dormant volcano and a waterfall, and it overlooks the stunning Iao Valley.
Lahaina Town offers art galleries, dining, shopping, and numerous historic gems. There are numerous luxurious beaches and opportunities for swimming, surfing, and kayaking. Don't tarry in your hotel room, or you may not have time to do and see everything Maui offers.
Bring Your Sunblock.
Hawaii is known for its tropical weather, and that includes a lot of sun. Whether you are hiking, swimming, boating, or simply strolling through town, be sure to wear sunblock. A painful sunburn could ruin your trip. Lay it on thick, and give it 20 minutes to absorb into your skin before sun exposure.
Don't:
Trespass.
Some guidebooks direct tourists to splendid locations without considering whether they are open to the public. Try to stay off private property, and look for—and respect— signs that read "No Trespassing." If you simply must enter onto private property, be sure to ask permission first.
Litter.
Maui is clean and pristine, and the locals hope to keep it that way. Do your part by not littering. Use available trash receptacles. If these are not available, carry out anything you carry in—including cigarette butts. You didn't visit a tropical paradise to look at someone else's waste, so please be considerate of others.
