Sports seasons for teens are action-packed. How to Reduce the Risk of Teen Sports Injuries

1. Get a Sports Physical Exam

Before your teen jumps into sports practice, schedule a physical exam for them. A doctor can check their overall health and detect any issues that may affect their playing. X-rays and tests can pick up any existing injuries that need to be treated so they don’t grow worse.     

2. Do Stretches

Stretching is crucial before diving into any physical activity and can reduce the chances of a sports injury. It helps relax your young athlete’s muscles and increase their flexibility and mobility. Walking, light jogging, and dynamic activities like jumping jacks are also beneficial. Your child should do a cool-down after a practice session or game, with additional stretches to relieve muscles and any strain that builds up in the body.  

3. Maintain a Healthy Diet

Vitamins and minerals can keep their energy levels high so they feel good while playing. Also, make sure they stay hydrated and drink lots of water. Your child is bound to sweat, and they should keep themselves replenished with liquids to avoid the dangerous side effects of dehydration.   

4. Buy Required Protective Gear

Before the season starts, check that your teenager has all the necessary equipment to participate in their chosen sport. Gear such as helmets, pads, and shoes protects your child from serious bodily injury. Make sure they’re outfitted properly before they hit the field.
