One of the many perks of a custom golf cart is how closely it can fit your style and daily use. For example, a lift kit will elevate it an extra 3 to 8 inches off the ground, allowing you to attach larger wheels and navigate rougher terrain while boosting the aesthetic appeal. Although having a professional install the kit is crucial to avoid damaging the cart or making it unsafe, you must first choose what kit to use. Here's a look at the most popular types.
What Are the Most Common Lift Kits for Golf Carts?
1. Spindle
Because it's easy to install and involves minimal change to the golf cart's structure, the spindle lift kit is especially popular. It simply adds a bigger and longer spindle so that the cart has a wider stance. This not only lets you drive with greater stability, but it also gives you room to install taller and thicker wheels on either side.
2. Drop Axle
Nearly as simple as spindle kits, drop-axle options replace the cart's standard axle with a longer one. This means there's a bigger radius of distance between the cart and the spindle and axle, so it's higher off the ground. You can then fit taller wheels underneath it.
3. A-Arm
The A-arm kit aims to increase the height by replacing the entire front suspension mechanism, elevating the whole cart. The superior suspension is also better at absorbing the shocks and jolts of bumpy ground, so it makes the ride smoother.
However, this kit often requires a new suspension mechanism at the back of your custom golf cart, such as an independent rear suspension kit. This switches out the back suspension with control arms that help the rear wheels move with the changing ground of uneven terrain.
4. Block Lift
Named for the block-shaped steel parts that provide the elevation you want, block-lift kits are likely the easiest type to install. The blocks simply go beneath the suspension, and their extra support is what provides the lift.
However, these kits are typically not as flexible or adjustable as others. In most cases, the block lift won't add more than about 4 inches of height, so if you want your custom golf cart to be taller than that, it's wise to go with a different option.
