Hot tubs provide a wide variety of benefits, from muscle relaxation and joint pain relief to improved sleep and cardiovascular health. If you wish to install one of these tubs on your property, you’ll need to decide where to place it. To help you determine where to install your hot tub, here are a few factors to keep in mind.

Where Should You Place a Hot Tub

1. Hot Tub Type

The first decision to make regarding tub placement is whether you want it indoors or outdoors. Some people love relaxing in hot water during the middle of winter, while others prefer their tubs in dedicated rooms, such as sunrooms. If you have trouble deciding between indoor or outdoor, write a list of pros and cons about both. Seeing the advantages and disadvantages on paper provides clarity.

2. Privacy

Whether your hot tub is indoors or out, privacy is a natural concern. If the tub is outside and you have tall fencing, privacy might not be an issue. However, if your house is surrounded by two-story homes, consider a gazebo structure with weatherproof curtains or something similar. In terms of indoor privacy, curtains or other window treatments typically suffice.

3. Weather

Should you go the outdoor route, the elements are a factor. Rain and snow prevent you from using the tub, making a pergola, gazebo, or similar structure a welcome idea. These structures and fencing also keep strong gusts at bay. Choosing a location with some cross breezes is still recommended, since stagnant air means getting overheated in the tub fast.

4. Safety

Like pools, these tubs can present safety risks to young children. If you want the tub outside, it should be installed in an area where it is visible from numerous locations in and around your home, such as your kitchen, living room, and back deck. If the tub is indoors, the entrance should feature a lock, so small children do not have access. A heavy cover that is impossible for small children to lift also contributes to optimal tub safety.
