When you take on a kitchen remodeling project, every detail accentuates your desired theme. The sink, for example, can become a focal point for the room. Here are a few models that look beautiful and have practical benefits.

What Types of Kitchen Sinks Exist?

1. Apron

This option is also known as the farmhouse sink because its large, overhanging basin resembles the oversized fixtures used in traditional farming homes. Made from cast iron or fireclay, it doesn’t absorb food stains.

You can choose to keep a single basin or add a division to create two sides. Your kitchen remodeling contractor may need to cut away parts of your cabinetry to accommodate the basin.

2. Undermount

Kitchen RemodelingThe basin for this type of fixture is mounted underneath the countertop, creating a subtle transition from the counter to the sink. The single basin is deep, and you can push food scraps easily into the fixture since there isn’t a lip between the countertop and the edge of the sink.

A contractor can quickly install this option since it’s lightweight and can be glued to the underside of your countertops, creating a cost-effective solution.

3. Drainboard

This is a unique style of sink that combines a basin with an attached drainboard for washing dishes. The drainboard replaces a second basin, leaving a single, smaller area for washing dishes and preparing meals.

If you wash dishes by hand, this option assists you by collecting pooling water as you work.

4. Integrated

This model fuses the sink to the countertop. Made of the same material as the countertop, it’s a discreet, high-end option. This fixture has no seam where it meets your countertop, so it won’t accumulate debris or mildew.

You must discuss this custom fixture with your countertop manufacturer, so place the order before your kitchen remodeling project begins.
