With the goal of decreasing hopelessness, helplessness, isolation, and poverty, HARBOR Unlimited in Jonesburg, MO, works with individuals of all ages and abilities. This trusted non-profit organization hosts events for families ranging from speaker series to recreation camps. HARBOR Unlimited offers educational opportunities through the Beacon of Light Speaker Series consisting of three consecutive months of guest speakers. These series cover a wide range of topics on current trends in the autism and down syndrome communities. They host Camp Lighthouse, an inclusive summer camp featuring arts and crafts, horsemanship, along with adapted water skiing, rock climbing, tree climbing, and zip-lining. Speak to staff members about their adapted snow skiing trip on the slopes of Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Eureka.
Like many non-profit organizations, the tremendous events and services at HARBOR Unlimited are impossible without the skills and commitment of their amazing volunteer staff. They interview and place volunteers into roles best suited to their strengths. Families are assigned a volunteer at several events, such as the snow skiing trip and summer camp.
