Perfluoroalkoxy alkanes (PFAs) are a family of potentially hazardous chemicals that can accumulate in drinking water supplies and soil. In the spring of 2020, high levels of PFAs were discovered in well water on French Island, a result of contaminant runoff from firefighting equipment used at nearby La Crosse Regional Airport.
